For something in Support of Veterans' Day

Virtual Veteran's Day - An Open Letter To Milbloggers

I am an airborne Vietnam through Gulf War I veteran, all 27 years and five months and a day of serving the United States of America and our allies, many of which fought beside me in some bad places. I have never felt the need for Veteran's Day, but I always wanted the country to accept my service and that of all the others that wore the uniform -- and I have always felt betrayed by my countrymen and politicians for Vietnam (not the fighting there - for the laughing at us being fools enough to think we had honor and dignity - Clinton, Gore and others were so much smarter about deferments and getting out of country early - because they were smarter and better than us). Sorry about the bitterness, but it is still there and won't go away this Vet's Day. Be a better person than I, and support your service people - don't throw them away, they will give everything for your protection - everything.

Why should you apologize for being upset with those who don't respect the service you and others gave so much for?

It's things like this that really make me really regret the fact that I was a liberal and supported those a$$clowns at one time.

People like yourself have paid the price and done the dirty work to keep the rest of us (some of whom are definitely ungrateful) free. I, for one, thank y'all for your service, and I will not forget. It is the least I can do for such a significant sacrifice.

I'm not sure you realize just how much you inspire me and others, and how your character stands tall and deserves respect. As far as I'm concerned, you have the right to have a bad taste in your mouth when considering Clinton, Gore and, oh, say Hanoi Jane. You earned it.

Ah, but the bitterness only hurts me, those others don't care and don't realize. Hanoi Jane went to New England to make a movie and found out how many Vets didn't like her and her activities in the War, it was a shock - she had been immersed in the Hollywood elite and didn't know what the rest of the world thought of her. I need to get rid of the bitterness - and mostly I do, the people I served with have always been the kind to die for and with - and that says something about the others.

Earl, I too am bitter, I remember coming through SFO and being spit on and called baby killer... I was 19 and still remember the hate on the girls faces as they cussed us. I don't EVER want to see another veteran go through that!

Veterans deserve far more than 'we' give them. I respect the uniform and the flag, but I respect the dedication, the courage and the resolve inside the uniform that is saluting our flag far more than some nitwit politician or 'celebrity' actor or actress who has done nothing to make my family safe from harm.

Your service was valued by me and I respect you for it.

All The Best,
Frank W. James

You left out a few draft-dodgers from your list. Quite a few, actually. But I'm sure it was just an oversight. You didn't mean to single out a few prominent Democrats only. Noooooo, you detest all draft-dodgers equally, don't you?
