Just slippin' away, slip slidin' away...
I stopped at a large pawn shop and one very nice Gun Shoppe to see what they had in .22 LR semi-automatic. The idea was, since I thought I had a couple hundred dollars laying around loose that I would buy one for a LTR (Liberty Training Rifle), and take it to Appleseeds. I didn't find any thing of real interest although there was a beautiful Browning bolt action, but then Brownings really are beautiful.
Today after church I went to the rifle range, to work on my use of the Winchester 94 Classic saddle carbine, in 30-30. Hmm, I can hit the target but not the way I want to with that fine firearm. Which means more work, more practice, more dry fire and maybe different sights? Maybe I shouldn't compare my work with the M1 Garand and the target .22 with a fast (open sights), lever action hunting rifle? That might be something worth convincing myself about.
I have been following Blackfork on his time at Camp Perry, one of those places I, as a wanna-be, would like to be. I will pull targets, honest, I will do work. His post today about M1s for Vets meant a lot to me, but then I was hooked when I read his first blog about this Camp Perry. I liked the college team from California, seems not everyone in California is afraid of guns and competition. If you have time read about people with real battle rifles, lots of ammunition and having a good time.
As I looked at the range I fired today, all ages, sexes, and shooting persuasions - enjoying the time and exercising their talents and getting better with every round - I keep thanking the Lord that I live in this great country.

Amen! Yesterday it was just a bunch of us old farts and a few active duty folks, but we had fun!
