Once I bought US Savings Stamps...

Remember the Green Stamps? Okay, maybe some of y'all are too young, but they are gone. I even bought US Saving Stamps in school when I was in elementary, but I am pretty sure they are gone, too. No, there wasn't still a war on, except the Cold War.

When I joined the Army, I had a small student loan to repay, and I wanted to invest in my future. So, I bought a twenty-five dollar US Savings Bond monthly and sent Twenty-five dollars to the bank that lent me money for college. I was only making about ninety dollars a month as a Private First Class. When the loan was paid off, I told the bank to stick it in my Savings Account, so I would have some money when I returned home - I spent a lot of time overseas. I kept automatic deposits going and buying Savings bonds for years. The Savings bonds became down payments on homes and stuff for emergency and such. Only taxed upon cashing them in, no problem. I was so successful at this I recommended that kind of a small change in budgeting for the future for everyone, save every payday, for the long term. I became no longer in favor of US Savings bonds when President Clinton and the Treasury changed some things about them.

So I have been not recommending US Government Bonds for years now, I would rather throw my money into Lottery tickets, that is how far down the scale they are for my investments. Without the current Debt Ceiling Crisis, I just don't invest in government promises of repayment - directly! Remember that the ENTIRE Social Security Trust Fund is Government IOUs. They took all the FICA tax money and spent it wildly, propping up Egypt and Pakistan (they are such great friends of ours). Yes, I know the government has also used the money for gun running to Mexico and other strange things. I guess I am so disgusted with the government, that I am too hard on them, expecting them to do a good job. I did see Charlie Wilson's War - that was the problem and is still not resolved...

In the end, watching the picture taking opportunity on Saturday in the White House - I noticed the guys who can't get the job done. And they didn't invite God inside to cool their hearts, still their passions and give them guidance. They are going it alone, and taking us all with them.

The Markets should crash on Monday, just for fun, anyone watching the Markets for figuring out how the economy is doing - doesn't understand markets.
