Friday, week four of Keegan...

He gets a picture taken today, and he is still in Hawai'i. Lucky fellow.

End of my work week:

The library was cleaned this morning, I have finished requesting a hundred and two InterLibrary Loans (ILLs), fifteen are already in shipping status and two more have been rejected. I didn't get another twenty-five because I couldn't find the title wanted. All reserves and ILLs on the shelves ready for pick up. The purchase order shopping was delivered today (ten big boxes of books!) with three UPS ILLs, and two boxes of J.L. Marcus catalogs (hmm and what they want is EastBay). The overdues are done, restrictions applied, and notices printed and addressed for distribution, the patron status is closer to being correct, since I have been deleting the released and re-assigned patrons. The emails are still a bit out of control, but working through them as I can. I should get ready for the weekend, MICC is totally ready for business. I did test and interview six applicants for the open position on Wednesday, but haven't had any assignment from the Job Center for filling the position. I did file for my travel and I did report my computer needs during upgrade.

I need more paper for my printer at home, I need to finish the yard, I need to rest and review before going to the Appleseed in Monroe this weekend and I should get off the computer... take care out there. My wife mentioned that famous people die young, and I told her that she and I will live a long, long time.

One gets Blest, but never feels Blessed ... still

I really don't do well enough for accolades, nor award nominations, I am still just hanging out or hanging on. But I do like being me too much to be someone else. So, name six things I am extremely grateful for (knowing that if the government finds out they will try to take them away?)

1. God
2. Family
3. Love
4. Friends (all two of them that didn't go shooting with me - today)
5. Good people everywhere - many more than bad people anywhere
6. Earth - Man's personal Garden of Eden (don't mess it up, folks)

The second award is named the Lemonade Award. Hmmm, maybe when life hands you lemons, you learn to make lemonade or lemon pie. It's just a matter of perspective. I do know this, no matter how large we feel our problems are, there is someone somewhere who has it so much harder. The world doesn't end when we are given a problem to overcome. No, life goes on...

The Lemonade Award tells me to pass it on to 10 other bloggers that show attitude and/or gratitude.

Ah, I lifted the above picture and text from Little Drops since she tagged me; and I thought I was picked for my sour disposition - and I don't add sugar to much in my life after reading Sugar Blues. But some folks read between the lines, peek behind the curtain, or expect more from me than I could ever deliver - in spite of the History of Earl.

I can pick ten with attitude and/or gratitude, my daily visits are there for a reason - they have both:

SailorCurt
Jeffro
Brigid
BBWolf
Ambulance Driver
Wyatt Earp
Sensible
Marianne
Old NFO
Bullet slinging Bookmarm... Breda

not that I would ever tell them they have been tagged or selected, but those that never visit my blog have ways of knowing who has linked and when and where. They all deserve these two awards and would, if they weren't doing such incredible creative stuff, play along.

Freedom means being unchained and loose...

I have no danger from excessive cellphone use and possible brain cancer - I don't own nor use cell phones, I think they are tethering. "Where are you now, darling?" and it isn't just your wife that can find you but the wonderful benevolent government can, too. Which is a positive thing in mountain rescue (providing there is a radio tower relay close by) but for your normal marijuana and guns run into the county it could be embarassing. Anyway, they can't find me that way, until they plant one under the chin line or back of my ears.

No, my concern is with my computer or the television soaking up my time, they do it so well. I should be stronger than that temptation to read what Tam wrote... she hasn't even posted since I last checked at 23:15 PDT, it is now 04:28, nope. There she is! posted at 7:32 her time, whew! I almost missed that. And no telling what Jenny Hogan has to say about the commute to Seattle (always about how long it will take to get to Seattle - no one ever does anything but drive through or by Tacoma). So, as I try to catch up with LtG, now CPTG and the destruction of his blog and my link to his adventures for Freedom, the clock has slid on to 5:01 and more of my day is gone.

I have stopped looking at video, and I can empty two mugs of coffee in the load times between blogs, then I have to read and likely leave a message of boring tempo, like I was important enough to have an opinion. Of course I have an opinion, if I can tear myself away from reading the next post by SailorCurt or all the others in my blog list. Yep it is 5:15 and time to find some food, figure out the weather and news and then dress and depart on the motorcycle for work at McNeil Island. Until I get back and link up again... and burn up my time, ruin my eyes and keep becoming a puddle of soggy fat flesh because I don't exercise while stand at the computer... choices, I should make better choices and start living off the net, remember when you could? No, well let me show you a picture of when there was only one television in the home, and after Howdy Doody and Mickey Mouse there wasn't anything to watch so I went outside.... where I should be soon as I check to see if Breda posted something yet.

Bye!

Turn off the electronics and enjoy the silence...

Okay, the neighbor is cutting the grass and there isn't any silence. But I should turn off the electronics - too distracting from my real life day, living virtually. I did find time today, in the beauty of the sunshine and warm to stop and shoot a little bit, strictly for familiarization. The range had run out of 9mm by two in the afternoon, but I brought a box with me, used forty-two to figure out that I am not exactly deadly at seven yards, but next time I will get my money's worth and go to the twenty yard line and shoot all my pistols.

The new one is too slim, too short, too DA, and wonderfully reliable so far and I don't see any trouble in the future with it, either. Remembering that this is something that I am not competing with, I am not taking to war, that I am going to wear and forget about mostly until the next time I go to practice. Well, time to clean up after a busy day and take my wife out to dinner, my son and daughter-in-law's treat and my pleasure.

Friday and the house is full of laughter...

Well, I rode my motorcycle on Thursday, to work and to choir practice, did all of Wednesday and Thursday's mail and stuff and Friday was clear. I wasn't feeling well, the right foot still hurts in moving but bears my weight just fine. My sinus problem comes back with the cold weather or the total pollenization by growing green stuff and the fungus and mushrooms blowing up in the yard. Still I am the guy in the home, and I get to move the furniture for the little woman - what were all those pushups and chin ups for, more than my looks. So the home is shifted and reworked and set up, and cleaned up. This is the time I notice all the STUFF we don't need, but are so fortunate to own (or someone would say). I also vaccum and try to make the computer cave organized enough not to shame my wife. Then sleep for tomorrow Winter will return to Western Washington - Global Warming anyone? that bear over there is white for a reason. I sleep restlessly with a clogged head that hangs so heavy.

Still, with the new morning of the LAST workday of the week, I get up to get going, no motorcycling this morning - Seattle is threatening rain and snow - and King County thinks they are in charge, who are we to protest? I don't do the walk to the dock either, my sinus problems won't get better in the whipping cold wind. They cram everyone on one ferry - to save twenty thousand dollars this month - the budget is rapidly running out. At work we put thirty-two new books in circulation, and twelve new CDs. I have thirty-nine donations that I download the MARC records for, three British publications I haven't found records for will have to wait. Our last morning hour the cabinet makers show up with the new nine foot long Staff Reference desk, only needing one more hole drilled for power cables. It is impressive - I keep thinking I could get a castle built for me if I wanted it, but this will do. I empty the old desk and then decide I don't want all that junk going into the new one, so I could organize it couldn't I? That and all the normal library stuff for closing out Friday, seems I have to schedule interviews and testing for new inmate library clerks - I must drive them away with my lack of charm and personality.

Home and my wife is happy and worn, she has been finishing the home, and cooking and preparing. At six I start opening the door and greeting everyone in my best Korean - and it isn't that good but I always tried to learn the polite phrases and the proper time to use them, so the person listening to my poor pronounciation won't be totally lost. Total audience of eighteen women and one man (token male leadership from the church - the women have their own leader of the group, and his wife is here, too). I get to eat, the picture above, squid, clam on half shell, spiced pork, mixed vegetables and noodles, rice with barley and seaweed soup - Coffee from America. I am always well fed. They celebrate one lady's birthday, I print out two copies of the picture (aren't computers wonderful?) and I talk about Army Service and military careers with the Deacon, he did twenty-three years in the Republic of Korea Army as an officer, but I was a paratrooper and in the American Army. The devotions start with singing hymns, prayers, small sermons and the good gospel message. My wife hands me her mobile phone to talk with my daughter-in-law in San Diego, her husband is coming home on Sunday - from a long deployment on the other side of the Pacific, she is excited and happy and it adds to the joy of the day.

We have a pile of cars outside, sixteen pairs of shoes on the porch, and happy well fed people about to depart - taking the extra to their homes to share. Life is good, even for reclusive almost monklike Library Keepers.

Old Dogs and new Tricks...

My program manager sent a new master time sheet for keeping the records of the hours we are open and instructions, along with a sample that she doesn't really want me to follow exactly but close. So I try to save a copy of the master with the new title, and the computer tells me that the form is protected unless I have the password to modify it. Ah, I don't have the password, and when I report to the person that sent the form I can't use I get silence. It doesn't matter, if I can't do my job because I don't have the essentials then I do the best I can after I notify the boss. I started one that I could modify, but not based on the one she insisted.

I also find that I no longer have motorcycle insurance, and I was sure I paid that online two weeks ago with my credit card. When I check the insurer has no such record but I am talking to a computer which sounds pretty smart, but wasn't that the same computer that I paid? I check the credit card company and get a live person (hurrah!) and find no record of the payment I thought I had made, must have only happened in my dreams. Okay, today I go find a real person and buy real motorcycle insurance this morning. I will pay by check and then go visit my Credit Union to record the new insurance, before the State comes after my tags. Real money and real people are so much better than this virtual stuff sent across the cyberspace. But I was already moving away from trusting the computers to be friendly to me, locked me out of my online service - for my own protection, from me and my old man mistakes.

I have often said things about not carrying a pistol since my life has been mostly fightin' free. But my wife went to her child care duties yesterday and found the parents of one of her favorite babies (they all become favorites quickly), murdered - some left over romantic possessive jealousy rotted into death for the betterment of the stupid murderous person... and it isn't going to get better, but the baby is lucky in that she is too young to remember the missing parents. Not enough hand to hand fighting going on? Would have been better for all involved if they had just punched and kicked on each other until they got tired and then gone and washed up. It didn't happen that way and I don't get all I ever wanted anyway. I had best go learn those new tricks before the computer messes me up some more.

Where I blog from

I was reading Kim du Toit, and he was displaying his computing area, but not what he blogs in, so it prompted me to take another picture of where I am, in the Computer Cave, standing up sipping coffee which needs a refill.
