Rumors that the NFL is kicking more than footballs...
Seems the Color Guard isn't going to be allowed to watch the Superbowl after posting the Colors at the Superbowl, just escorted out and put back on their bus. Doesn't sound like the players and coaches I knew, but then I am not a true fan, I don't pick a side, I just watch the game and look for brilliance and courage. Well, until I hear different the First of February is back to a Church and range day, or if the weather is with me I will be riding the Trusty Triumph. You see, I could have a life away from television and the National Football League. Kick that idea around for a bit. You will never know I wasn't there... there are more than enough fools.

How was Sunday? Here it was great...

Not that anyone would notice, but I watched Sunday Morning and listened to Mariah sing, both cute and sexy, and I had gruel for breakfast and then went on a gentle jog. Cleaned up and shaved, put on my church clothes and gun and rode the Trusty Triumph to church, opened some doors for ladies and children, smiled at young ladies with starry eyes (wishing I were in the market, but not even window shopping - they still look wonderful). Get gasoline, ride home and start watching football as I iron all my week's plus clothing. Okay, the Cardinals win and I yawn - did like the second half better'n the first. Ironing stuff gets put away and the next game is up and I pull out the pistols for cleaning. I wonder when I will get to shooting enough for a gunsmith to work on them to tune them up again. They do show a bit of wear, but not enough to worry me - I don't compete and so I am sure I am okay, competitors need to win against other competitors, and actors on the screen need to out shoot other actors on the screen. I will only need to out shoot the type of guys that steal from libraries or terrorists that have area weapons and surprise on their side. So, if my ammunition is clean and plentiful, the weapon is within reach and the day is going badly - I am confident that my .45s will work with all the function Mister Browning intended, and I will being my best because I prepared for the worst. My Sunday is just fine, ending it with a prayer for those far away from their loved ones and those in need but still fighting.

Bitter and clinging to Bible and Guns...
I drove my wife to the wedding yesterday afternoon, she has been ill and shouldn't drive. The wedding was smaller and still a joyful ceremony and we wish the couple all the best, marriage is tougher than it needs to be now days. My wife was a bit better and had a good night's sleep but her illness struck again this morning, and then settled back and she was going for her goals, church and one of the ladies' group thing - I get to make my own lunch and take care of myself in the afternoon. So after the morning jog, shave and shower, dress for church and put a couple rifles in the Caravan (problem with motorcycles, they just don't do rifles justice, maybe a Thompson in a leather holster?). So I go off to church, get to rehearse the Anthem with the choir, first performance of the new season. We robe up, go looking for coffee as the bells practice, and talk about things. My friend asks about my limp, I tell him I am old and it doesn't matter, and it doesn't -- everything wears out from here.
We proceed with the service and I stayed alert during the Sermon so I know how many times I am supposed to forgive, beyond count is the correct answer. A piece of cake and some banana bread with coffee after, more talking with my friend about whatever -- gosh, to think I went to church in my bitterness, or some folks would believe, but then if I were bitter I probably wouldn't go to church. More like hide in the shadows at home, terrified of coming into the light.
I drove off to the range on Fort Lewis, no pistol shooting today. I work on slinging up, sitting position and prone - I am locked on prone, shooting the hundred yard target, I thought I had lost some rounds on the sitting position, but I had miscounted and all bullets were in the target, so more practice on getting locked to tighten it up. I then treated myself to ten rounds of 30-06, and that deer is dead (if these old tired eyes could see him in the woods), I am much better on spotting humans than wildlife. Although two coyotes crossed the highway in front of me as I drove off base returning home, asphalt isn't the natural background for them. I am happy enough with the shooting. Now I have to worry about the wife that hasn't returned.

Gosh, I found another, one long legged redhead...
Armed and dangerous - actually I hope she is a very nice young lady with a good heart. I only ran into her because I went looking for Alien II targets at The Glock FAQ where I had been sent by the idea I would shoot a Postal Match from the Conservative UAW Guy. Like I need an excuse to go and shoot some targets.I spent time with my wife doing administrative duties (getting a new ID card) sharing the laughter at the movies watching Leatherheads, and I got jealous that Mr. Clooney gets to ride old motorcycles with sidecars and call it a business expense. I read the write up in one of the weekly new magazines and I don't really need people being shot up and bleeding to feel entertained and enlightened. Then I felt guilty enough to cut my lawn completely and lend my mower to my neighbor so he could do his, and I raked the clippings and trash so it looks pretty good now. We are preparing for Spring and Summer and work makes my wife appreciate me a little more (she will miss me when I am gone).
I wander the blog sphere reading and commenting and thinking about what is worthy and why it doesn't match the evening news, maybe because what I find worthy is unique to me and those few somewhat like me, but always not exactly like me. Well, my jog has been gently run and it is time for the shower and slow down, maybe a little glass of wine while watching foreign films.

Shooting again? where's the football?
I know there is a game today, and the Seahawks are playing the Packers, and I am supposed to want to support the local team, but my dream is the Packers going all the way this year and then Bret retiring at the height of his career. I didn't so I expect I know something of the sad state of not walking off with the laurel around one's crown. So I dropped my wife off to attend a function and I went off to shoot and vent the paper targets. Had lots of fun, wasn't as good as I should be but it is the start of the new shooting year and I will progress. I had to laugh, about the bite on the web of my shooting hand, haven't had that in awhile. Well the game calls, I will clean up two pistols and iron my shirts while I watch and eat lunch. It should be a great game, they practice more than I do and are certainly professional and entirely too serious about today.
